Mary Glasgow

Interim CEO Children 1st

Mary is the Interim CEO at Children 1st, Scotland’s National Children’s Charity – since 1884 Children 1st have been working in communities across Scotland to protect children from harm caused by abuse, neglect, poverty and other childhood adversity. Mary believes that working alongside whole families to support recovery from unresolved trauma is the best way to prevent adverse childhood experiences for future generations .

After qualifying as a social worker in 1991, Mary spent the first 11 years of her career as a local authority Social Worker, manager and trainer, in communities across Glasgow and Paisley. Working with families to keep children safe led to a strong belief that it’s all about how we build, maintain and repair relationships. With this in mind, alongside a desire to develop preventive, relationship based services, Mary moved to the third sector where she developed early years services and teams which focussed on building on the strengths of parents and children by recognising the need for both practical and emotional support.

As a leader in the charity sector , Mary is committed to a belief in the power of compassionate relationships as the means by which we can all transform lives and she works to develop organisational culture which embeds this at every level.

Mary is also a trustee of Starcatchers an early years arts organisation that brings quality arts and creative experiences to young children and their carers. She is also lucky enough to enjoy a busy family life, the outdoors, cycling and books.
