ILA Funding


ILA Scotland

Skills Development Scotland Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs) are for people who are 16 or over and living in Scotland and are for individuals who will benefit most from this support. You can apply for an ILA if you do not have a degree or above, are not undertaking any secondary, further or higher education, training through the Employability Fund or Modern Apprenticeship, or participating on the Community Jobs Scotland programme. You must also have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on certain benefits to be eligible to get up to £200 towards the costs of learning or training.

ILAs are available if you are interested in learning something new or brushing up your skills. There is a wide range of courses to choose from and you can study with any approved ILA learning provider, including learning centres, local colleges, universities and private training companies.   • Playwork - SVQ Level 3

    Duration - 12 - 18 months

    Cost - £1300

    Content - This vocational qualification is suitable for candidates working as out of school care practitioners. They will require skills and knowledge in children’s rights, health and safety play and working with children’s rights health and safety, play and working with children and parents.

  • Playwork - SVQ Level 2

    Duration - 6 - 9 months

    Cost - £900

    Content - This vocational qualification is suitable for candidates working as out of school care support workers. You will be assessed within the workplace and will have knowledge on children’s rights, health and safety, play and working with children and parents.

  • Outdoor Learning and the value of open-ended play

    Duration - 1 day

    Cost - £100

    Content

    - Recognise the many opportunities which occur on a daily basis to enhance young children’s competence in outdoor learning

    - Review examples of building on children’s interests and ideas about the world around them

    - Highlight benefits of using outdoor learning environments for all areas of learning to enhance and consolidate learning

    - Links to curriculum for excellence in the preparations of outdoor learning environments

    - Range of practical ideas that can be put into practice on return to establishment

  • CSCS Training

    Cost - £170

    Duration - 2 days

    Content - This course is designed to provide the necessary training for construction site operatives. It is essential for any person working on a construction site to have demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety and to hold a current CSCS card. Test will be sat at an approved centre.

  • Distribution Operations Maintenance Strategy

    Cost - £85

    Duration - 1 day course

    Content - Certificate allows candidates to work the Scottish Water’s network, the course covers –

    13 modules covering all aspects of the water industry, ranging from pipe layering operatives to water treatment work operators.

    Candidate ability to follow all Scottish Water rules and regulations covering the control of portable water from the water treatment works to the customers premises.

  • National Water Hygiene

    Cost - £85

    Duration - 1 day course

    Content - Certificate allows candidates to work the Scottish Water’s network, the course covers –

    13 modules covering all aspects of the water industry, ranging from pipe layering operatives to water treatment work operators.

  • First Aid at Work - 3 Day Course (Qualsafe Approved)

    Durations - 3 days

    Cost - £170

    Content - First Aid at work is for people wishing to become First Aiders under the terms of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1981 (Revised 1997). This course aims to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills required to deal with health emergencies.

    The qualification is valid for 3 years.

  • Emergency First Aid - 1 Day Course (Qualsafe Approved)

    Duration - 1 day

    Cost - £65

    Content - A certified qualification that covers the objectives and principles of Emergency Aid summoning help, choking and difficult breathing, cardiac arrest, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, epileptic seizures, shock, falls, fractures, burns and scolds, poisoning and electrocution.

    The course will be certified for 3 years.

  • Abrasive Wheels

    Training course is designed to meet the requirements for training in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998) for safety in the use of abrasive wheels and provide delegates with the knowledge and ability to cut or grind safely.

    Course is also designed to raise awareness of the dangers of using abrasives and promote good practice in the workplace. It Includes:

  • Asbestos Awareness

    It is a legal requirement that all who may come across asbestos in their day to day work have been provided with asbestos awareness training. If they will intentionally work on asbestos they must have had appropriate training specific to the tasks they will undertake.

  • CAT & Genny

    Promote safe methods of work following health & safety guidelines.
    Avoid injury to operatives and the general public.
    To avoid damage to underground apparatus.
    To deliver a knowledge and understanding on how to use a Cable Avoidance & Signal Generating Tool correctly.

    By the end of the course the delegate should be able to:
    • Identify different types of underground services.
    • Use pipe and cable locators.
    • Select and understand cable plans.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of responsibilities under relevant legislation.
    • Identifying underground apparatus and supporting utilities.
    • Introduction to CAT and Genny.

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (Qualsafe Approved)

    The QA Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations. Ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

    During this 1 day course, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including: managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, choking, shock, wounds and bleeding and minor injuries.

  • Face Fit

    Everyone required to wear any type of Respiratory Protective Equipment in the workplace must be face fit tested to ensure correct fitting and protection against substances potentially hazardous to health.

    Who needs Quantitative Face Fit Tested?
    • Any person who wears a full-face self-contained respiratory mask.
    • This includes breathing apparatus.

    Test is undertaken using a partacount machine, which measures the number of ambient particles inside and outside a facepiece, ensuring that the mask is correctly fitted and provides a tight seal around the wearers face.

  • Fire Marshal

    Learn how to prevent and combat fires in the workplace, including evacuating the building and the different types of fire extinguishers. Sound fire procedure is an important part of your Health and Safety Policy. This four hour course is suitable for anyone nominated as a Fire Marshal or to oversee fire safety by their employer. Students will receive a Student Reference Guide, which contains full details of the role and duties of a Fire Marshal as well as further background information.

  • First Aid at Work - 3 Day Course (Qualsafe Approved)

    Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. Includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

    The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, specifically designed for those who are appointed to act as a first aider in their workplace.
    Ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide first aid in voluntary and community activities.

    Duration: 3 days

    Cost: £190 +VAT

  • First Aid at Work Annual Refresher (Qualsafe Approved)

    HSE guidelines state that employers should ensure their first aiders remain competent to perform their role. Strongly recommended that first aiders undertake annual refresher training to practise their skills and update their knowledge on the latest first aid procedures.

    Over a half day period, Learners will leave with a renewed confidence having had the opportunity to practise essential first aid procedures, including: managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, wounds and bleeding, shock and more.   • Health and Safety Enviroment Test

    Course is the first step towards a CSCS Labourers Card (Green Card) and to the progressive CITB Site Safety Plus suite of courses that range from training for operatives into the industry up to senior manager / director.

  • IOSH – Working Safely

    Working Safely is a one-day course for people at any level, in any sector, needing a grounding of health and safety. It focuses on why health and safety is important, and how you can make a real difference to the well-being of yourself and others through changing your behaviour.

    The course is a 100% match to the Health and Safety Executive’s ‘Passport’ syllabus.Working safely is recognised as an equivalent to a level 1 award in health and safety in a construction environment.

    This means that delegates who successfully complete it can apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) green Labourer card once they've passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operatives Test.

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Site Safety Plus

    Five-day course which provides project managers, site managers and supervisors, business proprietors and client-based personnel with the knowledge and skills to enable them to ensure healthy and safe conditions for construction site employees.

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Site Safety Plus (Refresher)

    Two-day course aims to refresh your understanding of your key responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health, welfare and the environment, enabling you to provide healthy and safe working conditions for everyone on site.

    Course is a designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to safely manoeuvre vehicles into and around site as required to prevent incidents and accidents and death.

  • SSCYP - SVQ Level 3

    Cost - £1500 exc VAT

    Content -This vocational qualification is suitable for those working as practitioners in early education and childcare. At this level candidates are expected to be involved in meeting the care, support and learning needs of children and contributing to the development and quality assurance of informal learning activities and communication.
